Step-By-Step Tool Tutorials: WebCT Campus Edition 8 (CE8) - bought out by Blackboard

WebCT CE4.1 is no longer the learning management system (LMS) at BHC. CE8 has been adopted as its new LMS, beginning with the Summer09 terms. An LMS is used by some BHC faculty to teach Web-enhanced, hybrid, and online courses.

This page includes step-by-step printable (P) and video ( V) tutorials to assist you in using CE8 for your web-enhanced, hybrid, or online course. Some of the video links go to well-done video tutorials that have been developed by other CE8 users (Note: Some tutorials refer to CE6 which is an earlier version, but looks and operates the same way as CE8). Most of the other video tutorials were developed by the T/LC and are listed in three file sizes. Select the lowest number if you plan to watch the video using a dialup connection to the Internet. Faster speeds are linked if you plan to view the video clips using a DSL or Cable connection, or from your campus office on the College's fast network.

Migrate Course Content from WebCT CE4.1 to CE8

Set Up/Edit Course Structure

1. Prepare WebCT CE8 for the Next Semester (P)
2. Make your course open in WebCT from myBlackHawk.
3. Copy/Migrate/Backup/Download/Restore Course in WebCT Campus Edition
   • Copy course content from WebCT CE 8 to CE8 (P) (1000K, 512K, 256K) (V)
   • Migrate course content from CE 4 to CE8
   1. Export Course Content from CE 4 (not backup)
   2. Import Course Content from CE 4 into CE8 (P) or Assign Course Content (V) (1000K, 512K, 256K)
4. Navigation
• Add/Remove CE8 Tools in Course Menu (V)
• Move items within any of the CE8 Tool Areas (V) (1 or 2 (1000K, 512K, 256K)
5. Modify Home Page Layout
   • Change appearance (V)
   • Add Content Link to Home Page (V) (1000K, 512K, 256K)
   • Add File Folder to Home Page (V) (1000K, 512K, 256K)
   • Modify header/footer (V)
   • Add Color to Header (V) (1000K, 512K, 256K)
   • Change icons (V)
6. Add Learning Modules
   • If desired, use File Manager to import all files at once that you can link to from any Learning Module (V) (1000K, 512K, 256K)
   • Create learning module and add content to it (V) (1, 2 )
   • Import/add files to Learning Modules (if you haven't imported them all at once above) (V) (1000K, 512K, 256K)
   • Add links to Learning Modules (V) (Go to Build tab/Learning Modules tool and follow same process as Add Content Link to Home Page (1000K, 512K, 256K)
   • Link to audio or video files in Learning Modules (V) (1000K, 512K, 256K)

9. Set Up Student Groups
