Stephanie Valdes, R.N., M.S.

I have been a nurse for 34 years. Most of that time has been in nursing education. I worked for twelve years at Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing. I have taught at Black Hawk in the
Associate Degree Nursing Program since January of 1985. I received a Bachelor’s in Nursing from the College of St. Teresa’s in Winona, Minnesota. My time in Minnesota included two years of
clinical at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. I received my Master’s in Nursing from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL. while raising four children and working full time. My original specialty was Intensive Care/ Coronary Care. I have been lucky because I have been able to teach in almost every area in the curriculum. For the last 15 years, I have taught in Mental Health Nursing. I was Assistant Chair for Associate Degree Nursing for four years. I now
serve as Department Chair for Nursing, Allied Health and HPE.
Nursing has truly been my “call”. It is a wonderful profession. In all the years I have worked, I have never once questioned my decision to go into this field. I try, on a daily bases to, instill this love of nursing into every student I work with.
