The mission of the Associate Degree Nursing program is to prepare students for entry-level registered nurse positions in a variety of settings while also being responsive to local and national health care needs.

The graduate of Associate Degree Nursing program at Black Hawk College will be able to:

  • Demonstrate critical thinking through use of nursing process when making decisions and/or judgments involving client care.
  • Satisfactorily perform theory and research/evidence-based nursing interventions for diverse populations in a variety of settings.
  • Practice nursing in a caring manner consistent with professional standards, state practice acts and ethical guidelines.
  • Identify activities and resources that will enable continuous learning, self-development and commitment to professional growth.
  • Use therapeutic, effective communication skills (verbal, non-verbal and written) in all interactions within the health care environment.
  • Seek employment as a registered nurse in the current job market.
  • State a high degree of satisfaction with the nursing program
  The Associate Degree Nursing Program as part of Black Hawk College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and the Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.  The program is approved by the Illinois State Department of Professional Regulation. The program also has accreditation from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). This is an optional accreditation which validates that the program meets national standards for program excellence.
