Library of Congress Subject Terms

Where do subject terms come from? Most academic libraries use the Library of Congress Subject Terms to describe the contents of each book or other item.

It’s helpful to know the correct subject term.

For example, if you entered a Subject Term search for: death penalty you would get no books!

But if you searched using the term, Capital Punishment you'd see the PrairieCat libraries have over 300 books.
